PREFACE I like painting， then I become to like photography from 2001。 I seriously do a five-year plan to try the news， landscape and portrait。 Although I have been awarded many times， but increasingly I feel that these works are often lacking in depth and breadth， even worse was the lack of the value of permanence。 I began to feel painful that technology is the secondary， on the contrary the intention of photography has become my biggest problem。 I wake up as a sudden shock until one day I saw the statement， ”Most of us spend the rest of our lives blindly， but only photographs can prove that we were in this world and lived”。 I like this statement because it expresses the reason of my love for photography。 I therefore turn to documentary photography and try my best to make some works with the value of reservation and to understand and observe the era we are living。 I suddenly realize that we are very unfortunate that we have missed a great era and meanwhile we are lucky that we are living in a great era。 Today， China is full of vitality and opportunity 。It have given us a great many of themes and there is no doubt that we should be happy。 If we can not take some photos which can move ourselves and others， it is our own fault。 This world is full of too many false pictures， even many works alike in shape and in spirit are also full of false reality or real falsity。 We can live with ordinary， but we will never live falsely。 If we find our lives are not we wanted when our life is in the end， it may be the largest pathetic and sad thing。 Each person can believe that the world is there for us， but God has given us eyes and we have the wrong view of the world。 It is believed that we have an insight into the real world， but in fact the world is full of false and our eyes and hearts are also stained。 " We read the world wrong and say that it deceives us。 " we should reflect on this。 A clean photograph can be taken only a photographer with a clean heart。 Therefore， I tell myself that photo should first be true and， secondly be tolerance and love。 There are many ways to photography。 We can not simultaneously get into two rivers， so I chose my favorite way to go。 But I want to do a true observer and recorder， if better， I hope I can take some pictures that can be able to explain why I live in this way。 I also want to preserve as much as possible of the truth of our lives。 After many years， I can know I have lived through my pictures。 If the photos also remind people that they had lived， I will be satisfied。 I will have no regrets if my pictures can give some help to the people I love。 So that when I leave， I might have a little less guilt and a bit more peace and happiness。 For photography， all my feelings is only as this。 But， perhaps if “this” can be done， it is enough for many people。 DU Zhongjun Oct。9，2006
