Nobody's People 1991, Serie of 22 Polaroids 20x24" (50x60cm)
STATEMENT
These are straight 50x60cm Polaroid portraits of a group of refugees of very different ethnic backgrounds who were housed in cramped conditions in an ex convent, somewhere in the italian part of Switzerland (Canton Ticino). These photos were made with the total collaboration of my subjects as they actively took part in the making of these images. I must insist that these photographs are not merely a documentary and my intentions were not just to show how precarious their situation were. On the contrary, I am hoping to show that despite of the great suffering and despair caused by their seperations and abandonment and the very bleak and unknown future prospects they had lost neither their humanity nor their dignity.
