STATEMENT
My recent work from Canals in Surrey/England and Amsterdam show how strongly I am drawn to and influenced by the constantly changing patterns and visual effects of water and its surroundings. The canal is made of stagnant pools that do not flow and is totally sensitive to minute changes in light, wind, climate and the seasons ad becomes an ever-changing library of abstraction. The difficulty of capturing these fleeting changes trying to freeze these moments of transient beauty always feels like I am embarking on an epic journey that begins and ends less than a 100 yards from were I live. Working traditionally in medium format on photographic film I focus on colour, texture and abstraction. Like water, the images have a depth, which lies beyond the surface and imbues the work with a sense of mystery that draws the viewer in. The water has a resonance with memory. Pictures coming into focus and fading away overlapping and disappearing.
